aTOMic DJ September/ October 2014

Its been a while since I have a posted a blog and the reason for this is the last two months have been so busy. In september I had five big weddings including lovely venues and couples.

In early september I headed to the Tithe Barn in Petersfield to offer my all day wedding package for the wedding of  Charlotte and Daniel. This included me offering  my M.C services, wireless microphones, background music, up-lighters and evening entertainment.

Charlotte and daniel now live in Australia and I was lucky enough to provided entertainment for their leaving party, I also provided the music for charlottes sisters wedding last year so it was a privilege to return in September to once again be the couples chosen DJ. It was nice to receive this testimonial from charlotte a few weeks after the wedding:

“I dont know where to start, we cannot thank you enough for the whole day of music. The whole vibe from day to night was perfect we can thank you enough.
Ill be sure to recommend you to anyone i know getting married or needing a dj”
Later in september I headed to north hampshire for the wedding of Olivia and Charlie. It was held in a lovely Marquee on the grounds of Charlie’s mums house. What a great a day it was and it was a privilege to provide an early set-up, microphones for speeches and evening entertainment.  A few weeks later it was great to get the below testimonial from Olivia:

“Thank you so much for creating such a brilliant atmosphere with the music, the dance floor was packed all night and that’s down to the music. You have been so helpful and efficient thoroughout the whole process so thank you. I will recommend you to anyone in the future”

May 2014

Welcome to latest aTOMic DJ Blog

May always seems to be a busy month and one that always seems to be booked up quickly. May 2014 is no different with some great weddings already this month and more to come.

I started the month in Haywards Heath for wedding of Hanya and Lee at the lovely Slaugham Place. It was my first visit to this venue and what venue it is. Stunning grounds and I provide some daytime outside music for the guests while drinks and canapes were consumed. As My speaker is battery powered it is perfect for all inside and outside venues.

The speeches then followed and I acted as Master of ceremonies which is always a great honour and something I really enjoy doing. Background music while the wedding breakfast was served was provided by myself  with some nice laid back tunes playing.

We then proceeded into the evening entertainment where it was time to get the dancefloor  going for the night ahead. It all started with Take Thats Rule the world as the couples first dance and then we covered all genres to make sure everyone at the wedding left happy. As Hanya is an ex cruise ship youth worker even few party dances  found themselves on the playlist.

Hanya booked Up-lighters to really bring the marquee to life and as you can see from picture below even two of her favourite tv stars made an appearance. A great day and I wish them many happy years together.

Last saturday I headed to the lovely village of Broughton for the wedding of Emma and Tom.

It was a great night and I provided a variety of music throughout the night to get whole place rocking.

One of nice ideas of groom was to play a clip from the radio recorded 6 years ago where the DJ Jo Whiley dedicated a song to the couple and explained how the couple had met the year before, this was a surprise for the Bride and was a great idea.

The night was a great success and it was lovely to receive the below testimonial from the mother of the bride two days after:

“Dear Tom

Just a note to say a huge thank you for all your hard (hot!) work Saturday evening – the music was fantastic which was obvious by the fact that the dance floor was absolutely full the WHOLE time!
We all had an absolute blast and your contribution to that is much appreciated. The Jo Wiley piece was the icing on the cake – what a brain wave of Toms!”

Got a celebration coming up get in touch so we can organise the best bespoke entertainment for your party.

Tom & Emma Wedding

April 2014

The month of may is upon on us and another busy month ahead for myself. It all begins on Saturday as I head to Slaugham Place in Haywards Heath for the Wedding of Lee and Hanya. I am providing all day wedding Entertainment, some MC work and Up-lighters. I worked with Hanya on Oceana a P&O cruise ship so it will also be a great time to catch with old friends.

As we head into May its a great opportunity to look back at the busy month of april and some of my highlights.

I started the month performing at a rare 13th Birthday party for me in Waltham Chase. It was a great night and good to play all the latest songs. A week later it was back to my normal line of work  and heading to the lovely Bonhams Barn for the wedding of  Robert & Jennifer the new Mr & Mrs Hudd.

A wonderful day where I provided the background music for the drinks in the Marquee, then soft classical music for the meal. Before the meal we had the speeches and the couple decide to use my microphones which came in very useful. The bride wanted me play a few kids dances before I introduced the other entertainment of the night a local Barn dance. I finished the night with some great party tunes including a lot of up to date  music and some classic indie which went down a treat.

A great day had by all and one I was privilege to be a part of. Wishing many happy years together to Robert and Jennifer.

I finished off month last saturday with a great 40th Birthday party@Winchester Guildhall. What a great night and nice to get a lovely testimonial the day after:

“Hi Tom,

Just wanted to reiterate what we said last night, thank you so much for DJing at our party. You were brilliant. And you sensed what was needed perfectly and played exactly the right music at the right time! I had loads of people comment about how good you were and a few requesting contact details.
Thanks for making our night so fantastic!

Looking forward to may and summer 2014,to keep up to date or to get in touch about your forthcoming celebration, e-mail me on or check out my facebook or twitter accounts.

Until next time keep it aTOMic.

March 2014

Welcome to the april edition of the atomic DJ blog.

Things are fully up and running for this year and the month of march was a busy one.

It all began on the 8th March when I had the privileged to provide the evening  entertainment and up-lighters for Matthew and Katherine the new Mr and Mrs Reeve. The reception was held at the lovely Bartley Lodge Hotel and the night was a great success. The night was filled with a broad range of songs from all eras from the 50’s until the present day. The two final songs as requested by the bride and groom were Insomnia and Sandstorm!! What a way to finish and I would like to wish them many happy years together.

It was a great night filled with as you can imagine all the latest songs with a few classic songs mixed in. As you can see from the photo above the Up-lighters really made room look the part. A great night and massive happy 18th to Drew.

On the 22nd of march its great to once again work with Mark Parker and the I headed to Ramster Hall for the wedding of Rory and Emma. The start of the evening was hosted by a great local celidah band ” a licence to celidha” who got the night going with some great scottish dancing, I then followed on with a great two and half hour set which went down a storm. It was nice to get this feedback afterwards:

Hi Mark

New Mr & Mrs Lovett

Welcome aTOMic fans.

On January 25th 2014 I headed to one of my recommended Venues the fantastic Bonhams Barn in Alton to provide a variety of services for the lovely wedding of  Chris & Jenny Lovett.

Bonhams is a fantastic venue and a place that lets you put your own touches and style to your wedding day. Every wedding at Bonhams is different and unique.

Chris and Jenny got married at a nearby church then headed to Bonhams to start the celebrations. I provided the background music in the afternoon while the happy couple and guests enjoyed canapes and drinks. Jenny had chosen some great musical choices for the afternoon, a lot of swing and some great chilled out music.

The afternoon took an unlikely turn when high winds for an hour or so almost caused the catering tent to fly away. With help of the male guests holding down the tent and reinforcements the food was saved. It was something a little different but looking back it was very funny and something that will make their wedding even more unforgettable.

Once everything was secured the speeches commenced and I provided a microphone for the Father of the bride. All speeches went down a storm and all heartfelt. Dinner then commenced and I provided the background music to add mood to the Barn, nice chilled songs that fitted perfectly.

The evening entertainment began with the Wannadies and the You & Me Song the couples first Dance choice. A great choice. Some waltz’s followed for older generation present and we then progressed through the decades to get the party going.

Jenny’s and  Chris Pre-requests were mainly modern and 90’s indie and dance. With the majority of the guests being in their 30’s this went down a storm and we had a full dancefloor all night. Chris and Jenny left just after midnight to the sounds of Happy by Pharrell Williams.

I also provided Up-lighters which really made the barn look the part. A great day and evening and I wish Jenny and Chris many happy years together.

I have accompanied this blog with some fantastic photos from Damian Bailey, please check out his fantastic website at

aTOMic DJ awards awards awards

Welcome atomic fans to the latest addition of atomic the DJ Blog.

January is normally a busy time as I plan for the year ahead getting in all the bookings for the busy summer. Although it is normally a busy time on the booking side of things it can be quiet time for actual gigs, but this year it seems its a very busy time for actual bookings which is great.

You can hear about the lovely wedding I had the pleasure of providing all day services for last week at Bonhams Barn on my next piece, but on this blog I am going to concentrate on the two award ceremonies I provided the  after show music for last week.

Now when I normally head to Centerparcs I like to enjoy the walks or the fantastic pool, but last week it was strictly business as I was working for In-connection in providing after awards music. After a fantastic day of conference and motivational speakers for the delegates it was time for everyone to relax and enjoy the evenings entertainment.

Firstly it was a three course meal followed by the awards, then it was time for me to head to the decks for the after award music. Now In-connection had organised a wide variety of entertainment, including Karaoke booth,  cocktail bar staff, fun photo booth as well as me. With this in mind and the fact the company that we were providing the entertainment for are 75% male I knew I had a job on my hands, but the night was a great success.

We had a busy dance floor with modern indie tracks going down brilliantly towards the end. A great night and once again a privilege to work  with In-coneection. Check out the many photos.

On Friday aTOMic DJ and DJ Tom  headed to the Portsmouth News excellence Awards at the Portsmouth  Guildhall. A great night, hosted By Fred Dinenage that awards  local businesses. You can find out more about the awards Below: Tom Burrell @Portsmouth Guildhall

DJ Tom Burrell @Portsmouth Guildhall
DJ Tom Burrell @ Centerparcs

DJ Tom Burrell @ Centerparcs

Patomic dj @ In-Connectionleasure to play after the awards with the dancefloor fillers on the night, Pharrell, Daft Punk and Avicci.

Both gigs were a great success and I look forward to working with both companies in the future…

Keep a look out for my next blog as I look at my recent weddings….

aTOMic DJ @ New Place Hotel

Welcome to the latest atomic DJ blog on another wet, cold and miserable winters day, although I have noted that the nights are getting slightly lighter, must mean that it will soon be time to get the bbq out and book your summer weddings entertainment.

Now recently I have been looking back at my gigs in december including my trip to Wembley and performing up  very high at the Gherkin. Now these gigs are amazing but what I do each and every week and something that I love are of-course weddings and I was privilege to head to New place Hotel this december for the Wedding of Rod & Carrie Sessions.

Like all my wedding packages I offered a meeting and playlist and we met a month before the big day. In the meeting we discussed music and apart form a few tracks including the first dance the couple wanted me use my experience and play a set that would get people on the dancefloor. Its always nice to have a playlist to get a feel of what the couple like but its equally as nice for the couple to trust you to get the party going.

Rod & Carrie wanted me to do an early set-up and also set up up-lighters. The room at New Place is nice but the up-lighters certainly improve it and can certainly style it to the way you want it.

Rod and Carrie’s first dance was Eva Cassidy time after time, a lovely song that fitted perfectly, it fitted so well I choose it as the last dance as well. The night was a great success with a mix of ages accompanied by a mixture of music and genres that got everyone on the dancefloor . A fitting way to finish off a perfect day for Rod & Carrie.

The couple sent me the following testimonial on return from honeymoon:

Hi Tom,

I hope you are well, and looking forward to the festive fun. It must be a busy time of year for you.

We are just back from mini-moon and I wanted to take time out to thank you for a fabulous evening at New Place. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and everyone of the guests we have spoken to since have said what a great day it was. This wouldn’t have been possible without you, and really getting the party going in the evening.

Thanks again for a great, great night.

Carrie and Rod x

Lovely comments from the new Mr & Mrs Sessions. Want to have a memorable evening like Rod and Carrie then please do get in touch….
